Story on TRIO Upward Bound Advisor Kenny White
Normandale’s TRIO Upward Bound program hosted Rep. Kelly Morrison in a visit to Kennedy High School on January 28.
Rep. Morrison talked about the program with Upward Bound Director Jennifer Saunders, Upward Bound Advisors Chris Luhmann and Kenny White, and with Kennedy students who are in the program. Kennedy High School started its TRIO Upward Bound program three years ago, and is already up to 60+ students.
Since 1992, Upward Bound at Normandale has helped high school students prepare for higher education. Students participated in a variety of activities ranging from tutoring to field trips to college visits, after school, on Saturdays and during the summer. Upward Bound (UB) is funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant program that has been helping students prepare for college and career since 1965.
The Upward Bound program serves 126 students between two grants at Kennedy High School, Richfield High School, Shakopee High School, Southwest High School, and Washburn High School
